A Cento for Poe

We Will Stand

You struck us from behind, but
We will not stumble.
We will climb the rubble, and
We will stand tall.

You thought your cowardly
plans would separate our land, but
We will join hands, and
We will stand as states united.

You’ve attacked our limbs
but not our hearts.
This country will not fall apart.
We will stand as one.

You think that you’ve
struck a blow, but
in time you will know that
We will stand for humanity.

We will not drop to our knees
and plead for mercy.
We will stand strong
on the foundation of democracy.

We will stand for those who’ve fallen.
We will stand for our future.
We will stand for life.
We will stand as America.
